Second Round of Photos

It's always rewarding when a company I've worked with on a big project comes back and asks to do another session. When they originally hired me, they actually showed me images from a past photographer that they didn't like. So to give me a chance the first time was awesome, the second time was even more rewarding.

Planning the Loxxie Hair Branding Photoshoot

Loxxie Hair Extensions was in need of fresh branding images to use across their website, social media, and marketing campaigns. Having overused the photos from our last session, they reached out to me again, knowing I could deliver images that matched their brand aesthetic while giving them plenty of variety.

The first step was planning. I collaborated with the owners to determine the vision for the shoot. They wanted to showcase five different hair colors on five different models, ensuring a diverse and engaging representation of their product. They also wanted a rustic, cowgirl-inspired setting, so I helped them pick a studio that had wooden tones, white walls, and boho furniture to complement the brand’s look.

Selecting the Right Models

To bring the vision to life, I needed to cast models that would not only showcase the different hair colors but also exude confidence and professionalism in front of the camera. I started the selection process by putting out a model call on Instagram and in local Facebook groups. I searched for women within the 20-30 age range with specific hair colors that matched the extensions Loxxie wanted to feature.

Since I had worked with Loxxie before, I also reached out to a few models from our previous shoot. Familiarity with the models made the process smoother, as I already knew their comfort levels in front of the camera and their ability to take direction. Ultimately, we had a great mix of fresh faces and experienced models, making for a balanced and dynamic shoot.

Creating a Game Plan: Shot List & Posing

With a project this big, preparation is key. I worked closely with Loxxie’s team to create a detailed shot list that ensured we captured everything they needed. We wanted a mix of individual shots, group shots, close-ups, and action shots that highlighted the extensions in different ways. Since they planned to use some of the images for holiday promotions, we also incorporated festive-themed looks into the shoot.

When it came to posing, I wanted a mix of natural and dynamic movements. We had models flipping their hair to showcase movement, holding the extensions to highlight length and volume, and interacting with each other to create a fun, engaging vibe. Every pose was intentional, designed to complement the product while keeping the models looking effortless and confident.

Execution: Capturing the Perfect Shots

The shoot itself ran smoothly, thanks to our thorough planning. One challenge I anticipated was capturing movement in a way that felt natural and flattering. Hair can be tricky to photograph—too much movement, and it can look messy; too little, and it can feel stiff. To combat this, I had the models do controlled hair flips and subtle head turns to capture motion while maintaining the integrity of the style.

Lighting was another key component. I wanted bright, airy lighting that made the extensions look luxurious while maintaining some depth to avoid flat images. Since we were in a controlled studio environment, I was able to adjust my lighting setup easily to ensure consistency across all shots.

Having a professional makeup artist on set was a huge help as well. Not only did it save me time in post-production, but it also ensured the models looked polished and cohesive, keeping the focus on the hair.

Post-Production & Final Delivery

After the shoot, I had Loxxie Hair pick their favorite images and then began my editing process. My goal was to enhance the natural beauty of the models and hair without making the images look overly retouched. I adjusted the lighting and colors to ensure consistency across all images, making sure the hair colors were accurate and vibrant.

Loxxie was thrilled with the final results. Because we had created so many different looks, they had a wealth of content to use across their website, social media, and marketing materials. They also appreciated that I formatted the images correctly from the start, making it easy for them to plug the photos directly into their platforms without extra resizing or adjustments.
