Launching a Product on Amazon: Photographing Showerheads That Sell

When a brand-new product launches on Amazon, the photos do a lot of heavy lifting. Before a customer reads a single bullet point, they’re already deciding whether they trust the product—and the brand behind it—based on the images alone.

That was exactly the case for a recent project I worked on with a Utah-based startup launching a new line of showerheads on Amazon and their own website. The product came in three finishes—a matte black, a warm gold-toned option, and a highly reflective chrome showerhead—and each one needed to be photographed in a way that clearly communicated quality, material, and function.

Starting with a Clear Vision

Unlike some projects where I help shape the creative direction from scratch, this client came prepared. He sent reference images from competing brands, along with very specific notes on angles, lighting style, and how each product variation should be presented.

That clarity made this project unique. My role wasn’t to reinvent the wheel—it was to execute precisely and professionally. This is often the case when working with marketing agencies or founders who already understand their market and need a photographer who can translate a vision into polished, Amazon-ready imagery.

The Challenge of Photographing Chrome

One of the biggest technical challenges in this shoot was the chrome showerhead. In most product photography, reflections and shine are something you try to control or minimize. But chrome is different. If it looks flat or dull, it immediately feels cheap.

The goal here was to show intentional highlights and clean reflections—enough shine to clearly communicate the material without creating harsh glare or distracting reflections. That meant carefully placing lights, adjusting angles, and using reflectors strategically to shape the reflections rather than fight them.

This is one of those moments where experience matters. Photographing reflective products for Amazon requires knowing how far you can push contrast and highlights while still keeping the image compliant and clean.

Studio Shots First: Amazon Standards Matter

We began the project with classic studio shots on a pure white background, following Amazon’s main image requirements. Each showerhead was photographed individually, ensuring consistency across all three color variations.

From there, I moved into a grouped product image that included the showerhead along with all the tools and accessories that come with it. Instead of keeping everything on a flat white background, I added subtle texture to give the image depth while still keeping it clean and professional for both Amazon and the brand’s website.

This type of image helps customers understand exactly what they’re getting—no surprises, no confusion.

Adding Lifestyle Images

Beyond studio photography, the client also wanted lifestyle images to support both the Amazon listing and their website. For this, I hired three models and ordered white bathrobes in slightly different textures to keep the look cohesive but not repetitive.

The models came into my studio, and within about 20–30 minutes we captured everything we needed. Each model was photographed individually holding the showerhead, followed by a group shot featuring all three finishes together.

These lifestyle images add a human element to the product and help potential buyers imagine the showerhead in a real-world setting—even when the final image is still clean, controlled, and brand-focused.

Executing, Not Guessing

One of the reasons I really enjoyed this project is that the creative direction was already defined. The client knew what he wanted based on his research, and my job was to match that vision precisely.

This is the kind of work I often do with marketing agencies as well—taking established brand guidelines, references, or competitor benchmarks and executing them with consistency, technical accuracy, and attention to detail.

In post-production, I refined reflections, cleaned up edges, enhanced contrast where needed, and ensured every image looked polished and ready for e-commerce use.

The Final Result

The final images checked every box: clean studio shots, clear material representation, cohesive lifestyle imagery, and Amazon-compliant files ready for launch. The client was thrilled with the results, left a five-star Google review, and told me he plans to use me again for future products.

Projects like this are a reminder that strong product photography isn’t about being flashy—it’s about clarity, consistency, and trust.

Working With Brands, Agencies, and Out-of-State Clients

I’m a Utah product photographer based in Draper, serving Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas, but I regularly work with out-of-state clients as well. Whether you’re a startup founder, an established brand, or a marketing agency managing multiple products, my goal is the same: create professional product photos that help your listings convert.

I specialize in photographing products for Amazon, e-commerce websites, and digital marketing—everything from showerheads and home goods to backpacks, baby bags, and outdoor gear.

If you’re launching a new product or refreshing an existing listing, I’d love to help bring your vision to life.
